After our long and exhausting trek, we were incredibly happy to finally arrive at our destination.
Upon arrival, we had the option to sleep in either a tent or a small mountain hut. Given the poor weather and the expectation of temperatures dropping to around 0 °C with some rain, we opted for the hut.
We prepared ourselves thoroughly for the cold night ahead. Then, we were treated to a gorgeous dinner of Tobiuo-nabe (Flying fish hotpot). It was a luxurious menu, especially considering the very cold conditions and the fact that we were in the middle of nowhere, without running water or electricity. There weren’t even any lights!
Our guide, Tadashi-san, impressively prepared everything on site, from cutting the vegetables to cooking the meal. We were also treated to local Shochu, making for a warm and cozy dinner time despite our remote location.
As the night progressed, it indeed got very cold, but we managed to survive through to the morning.
