Today is our last day in Greece...

But with a late flight at 20:10, we had almost the entire day to enjoy ourselves — no rush, no schedule, just space to breathe.

We enjoyed a late and leisurely breakfast, taking our time with the generous buffet and the wide variety of à la carte options. Everything was delicious, and it felt like a perfect start to our final day.

We strolled along the coast, and under the bright sky, the sea sparkled beautifully. After walking quite a long way, we suddenly found a small bench under a tree right on the beach. It looked like the perfect spot to pause and take in the view.

So we sat there quietly, watching the waves roll in and out. It felt so peaceful. A moment of pure stillness and contentment.

Then, something unexpected happened.

A man approached us and asked,

“Can I take your picture?”

We were confused at first. Why would a stranger want to take our photo?

He explained, smiling: “You look so beautiful sitting there. I’d love to take a picture for you — just hand me your iPhone.”

At first, I hesitated — what if he ran off with it? But something about his calm energy felt trustworthy. So I passed him the phone.

He took a few photos and then simply walked away.

And… wow.

He captured a perfect shot — the two of us on the bench, quietly looking at the sea. It became the memory photo of this entire trip — a symbolic image of our pearl wedding anniversary, full of calm, connection, and gratitude.

We stayed there a bit longer, soaking in the quiet joy of that unexpected moment, and then headed back along the coast.

On the way, we stopped at a beach bar for a cold beer — a little apero to toast the sunshine and this peaceful day. It was the perfect pause before lunch.

Soon, it was time to think about our final meal in Crete.

Back at the hotel, we searched and found a local restaurant just 10 minutes away. It looked simple and authentic — the kind of place you wouldn’t find in a guidebook. They were serving meats slow-cooked over 12 hours. That was all we needed to hear.

And what a discovery!

The restaurant was rustic and charming, with large cuts of meat roasting in front of a fireplace.

Everything smelled incredible. I ordered grilled octopus, and my husband had the mixed grill. Both dishes were absolutely delicious — rich in flavor, cooked with love. And of course, Raki was served at the end, as always.

Since it was our last meal and we still had time, we lingered. We chatted, laughed, shared reflections... and soon the little carafe of Raki was gone. And then — surprise — another one arrived at our table, courtesy of the host. So we kept talking and, naturally, finished that one too.

It turned out to be one of the best meals of the trip.

A perfect, meaningful final chapter.

After lunch, we returned to the hotel for a shower and final packing.

Then it was time to go.

And now — we are back home in Luxembourg.
