Today was the day we moved to Plakias — the area near our favorite restaurant in all of Crete, Vrisi.

Since it’s just about an hour's drive, we allowed ourselves a leisurely morning, enjoying a peaceful brakfast overlooking the sea before setting off slowly.

The drive itself was uneventful, but we soon arrived at Sofia Hotel, a small boutique stay that’s simple yet charming, and wonderfully located.

After checking in, we did what has now become our little ritual: headed straight to the beach for a beer, followed by a light snack.

There wasn’t much on the agenda today — and that was entirely intentional.

We’ve been here before, and the main purpose of this stop was tonight’s dinner. There also wouldn’t be enough time to take on a proper hike as we had in the past, so a relaxed afternoon felt just right.

We set off for the restaurant while the sun was still high, taking a familiar 30-minute stroll that gently built up a sense of anticipation.

And the food?

Just as excellent as we remembered.

My husband had the grilled octopus, our favorite from the last visit, and I chose the grilled tuna.

We started with a guacamole, and a tomato appetizer served with exquisitely flavorful olive oil.

Each bite brought memories flooding back — it was as if time hadn’t passed, and we were simply continuing where we had left off.

From our table, we watched the bay turn golden in the light of the setting sun.

Another perfect day, simple and rich in all the right ways.
