Our day began early as we prepared for a journey into the Cuban countryside, approximately an hour’s drive from the city. Before setting off, however, we had the honor of visiting one of the oldest cigar factories in the world.
At this historic site, we observed the intricate production process behind some of Cuba’s most iconic cigar brands, including Cohiba, Montecristo, and Romeo y Julieta. Watching the skilled workers at each stage was mesmerizing, as they brought a level of craftsmanship and precision that reflected years of dedication.

Photography was unfortunately prohibited inside, so I can only share my words to convey the experience. It’s a labor-intensive process, carried out with remarkable efficiency. Becoming a cigar roller is no small feat; it requires nine months of rigorous training. For many Cubans, it’s not just a job but a lifelong profession, embodying both artistry and tradition.
This visit gave us a newfound appreciation for the skill and heritage behind Cuban cigars, a true hallmark of the country’s culture.
