After a short ride outside Havana, we arrived in the quaint fishing village of Jaimanitas, home to one of Cuba's most whimsical artistic creations—Fusterlandia. This enchanting neighborhood is the brainchild of José Fuster, a world-renowned artist often referred to as the "Picasso of the Caribbean." Inspired by Antoni Gaudí's work in Barcelona, Fuster transformed his surroundings into a colorful mosaic wonderland.

Walking into Fusterlandia felt like stepping into a dreamscape of vivid colors, intricate tile work, and larger-than-life sculptures. Nearly every surface was covered in mosaics, from walls and benches to rooftops and even street signs. The designs ranged from playful and abstract to deeply symbolic, showcasing Fuster's unique vision and passion for Cuban culture.

What makes Fusterlandia even more remarkable is its communal aspect. Fuster didn’t limit his art to his own home; he extended his creativity to the homes of neighbors, adorning them with mosaics and turning the entire area into an open-air museum. It’s a testament to the power of art in fostering community and transforming public spaces.

Fusterlandia was a fascinating glimpse into the boundless creativity and community spirit of Cuba—a colorful interlude before we returned to explore more of Havana's iconic landmarks.
